Medicare Supplement Plan Comparison Chart

Medicare Supplement Plan Comparison Chart

There are a lot of types of Medicare plans available. And it can be confusing to get them all straight.

Below we look at the 5 main “parts” of Medicare. And then we’ll compare the coverage of the different Medicare supplement plans.

The Main Parts of Medicare

Medicare can be divided into 5 main parts. Here’s a brief overview of what they are.

Medicare Part A is hospital insurance. Part A provides coverage for treatment and services that take place in an inpatient setting.

Medicare Part B provides coverage for outpatient services, treatment and equipment as opposed to inpatient care.

Both Part A and Part B make up what is known as Original Medicare.

Medicare Part C is a Medicare offered by different private insurance companies. These plans cover everything Part A and B covers along with extra benefits (which vary depending on the specific plan you get). It is also known as Medicare Advantage.

Medicare Part D is a drug supplement plan. It covers prescription medications.

Then we get to Medigap. And that’s what we’re going to focus on below.

Medicare Supplement Plan Comparison Chart

Medigap, also known as Medicare Supplement insurance, are Medicare plans that are available in most states. Unlike the first three Medicare parts, Medigap are plans that help pay for the gaps in Medicare coverage.

These gaps may be deductibles, co-payments, and co-insurance that are not paid by Original Medicare. (Medicare Part A and Part B)

As of now, there are 10 Medigap plans, and those are labeled by letters. These plans are Plan A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M and N.

Although they all provide coverage for the same thing but, in a way, they are different. That is because each Medigap plan charges different rates.

Much like Medicare Part C, they are offered by private insurance.

On the chart Below, you’ll see how the coverage of the different Medigap plans are similar and how they are different.
